Alex Salmond has been attacked over comments in which he claimed Scots "didn't mind" Margaret Thatcher.Mr Salmond had said Scots could accept Ms Thatcher's economic policies, but they had taken umbrage at her social views. Iain Gray, one of the contenders for Scottish Labour leader, has laid into Mr Salmond, the leader of the Scottish National party (SNP). Speaking at the start of a by-election campaign trail in Glenrothes, Mr Gray said: "Margaret Thatcher decimated this area, crushing a whole generation of hopes, and wiped out the industries which were the lifeblood of the area. "The SNP are so clearly out of touch with the people of Fife if they think that kind of rosy view of history is welcome here." Labour are yet to set a date for the Glenrothes by-election, but many party insiders are pointing to late October or early November.
