Nick Clegg launched a scathing attack on David Cameron, describing the Conservative leader as an "Atlanticist neoconservative".Having focused his criticism on Gordon Brown's Labour yesterday Mr Clegg told the Liberal Democrat party conference in Bournemouth this afternoon he believes the Tories are deliberately avoiding specific policies to win popularity. "They're doing the easy bit now, saying they're everything to everyone," he said. "I don't believe the people of Britain will hand the keys to No 10 to people who won't say what they will actually do. "Then there's the hard bit, when people will ask him: what will you really do? Are you prepared to make the tough choices?" On questioned about the neoconservative tag Mr Clegg added: "He describes himself as a cuddly toy." The Lib Dem leader, who will not appear before delegates at the Bournemouth International Centre again until his closing speech on Wednesday, emphasised his own desire to prioritise making Britain a "fairer place". He said it was a certainty the party would double the number of its MPs and that, when this happened, electoral reform would require a "fairer, more diverse, more accountable" Commons. "People have to be clear – the Conservative and Labour parties are vested interests in British politics. They don't want change." Continuing the anti-establishment theme of his conference rhetoric so far, Mr Clegg confirmed he would be taking paternity leave and that more should be done to get the "balance right" in politics. He finished: "Westminster culture doesn't accommodate the fact that we are mothers and fathers. We have to humanise British politics."
